Preparing For A House Fire

Investing in your home is a great way to build value but investing in security systems can also increase the overall safety of your home. While many people are having security systems installed in there home, you may want to consider installing a fire protection system in your home as well. There were over 500,000 structure fires in the United States. With these structure fires came over 2,500 deaths, 1,300 injuries, and over 10 billion worth of damage. These are scary statistics, so do not ever think that it will never happen to you, because it truly could. The best thing that you can do with in regards to a house fire is prepare. Here are a few things you can do to prepare for a house fire.

Fire Alarm System

Installing a fire alarm system may be the best way to protect yourself and loved ones in the event of a fire. The alarm works just like a security alarm. Your smoke and heat detectors are connected to a monitoring station that is notified if the alarm goes off. The emergency can be confirmed over the alarm system, and then the authorities are dispatched. This allows you and your family to escape while the authorities are in route to your home.

Sprinkler System 

Another aspect of fire protection that is incredibly effective is a fire sprinkler system. These are found in most commercial buildings, and are effective in preventing the spread of fire, but also extinguishing a fire. There will always be water flowing through the sprinkler system, but the water will be held back by a cap of glass full of glycerin. When there is a fire the glycerin will boil and shatter the glass. When the glass shatters the water will start to flow through the sprinkler heads. A fire can spread through a room in just a matter of minutes, and the sprinkler system is a great way to stop this from happening. 

Fire Extinguishers

Another way that you can prepare for a fire is to have fire extinguishers in the house. You should keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and in the laundry room so you can put out a fire that is just starting. If you are able to put the fire out before it starts to get to big you can save your home from a lot of property damage. Simply having a few fire extinguishers in the home can be a huge help.
